KITTY LE ROY'S WILD WEST
This folks, is my alter-ego, Kitty Le Roy, although I've changed her somewhat to suit me always been fascinated by the wild west, encouraged and spurred on - pardon the pun - The Virginian , Alias Smith and Jones, The High Chaparral and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I wanted to emulate the notorious and adventurous wild western women whose lives fascinated me even more.
During the sixties my interest gathered momentum and dad called me Annie Oakley - loved that! - because I used to shoot at empty plastic washing up liquid bottles from an (open!) window with his air rifle. I wasn't a bad shot. I wanted to emulate a cowgirl/prospector and find like-minded folk, but there was no-one back then.
Thank goodness I married the man who encouraged me in my endeavours. I found the The British Westerners Association (BWA), who encouraged me further. I developed my passion and my kit, which brought me to where I am today. I loved emulating an amalgamation of these western women at living history camps.
I'm a pipe smoking', pistol packin' saloon lovinin' prospectin' gal in 1880s Colorado or 1890s Yukon. I have aa mule called Jenny cuz mules suit me better than hosses cuz mules are daft an' ornery. If Jenny had been Jack, she'd have been a jackass, the name for a male donkey/mule/burro.
This is my pard, quack Dr.Jack Coltrane, (JC) alias Husband. He accompanies me to western events in long-tailed coat and carries a Gladstone bag. He vowed to do so at our wedding, he just doesn't remember doing so. He walks with a cane (there's a mini whiskey flask in the top end) and a limp, where I, Kitty, shot him in a moment of pique.
I built my cabin from garden shed parts, determining to get the roof on before the rain started, many years ago. It's well weathered and filled with western artefacts (goat skull, steer horns, canned grub, whiskey bottles, art by me and western images). I've recently replaced the roof, with the help of JC, and intend, this summer to get it in shape again.
My 'Winchester '73' is shown, plus my replica blank firing Colt .45 and my Bowie knife. I also have a .177 cal pellet firing air rifle, given to me by Husband as a romantic anniversary pressie. I'd always wanted one after firing my dad's rifle. I've got archery kit, too. I'm armed and ready! Below is a pearl handled, silver, engraved revolver, exactly the kind I fancy for fancy dressing. I've now acquired a white gripped, silver revolver, but unfortunately it's too big to fit in my holster. Damn!
