Recently I posted a promotional ad for the first book of my epic western trilogy Alias Jeannie Delaney. I wish I had introduced myself! For that I humbly apologise.
I'm Kit Mackenzie, western author, aka Jo Ballantyne, artist. As a western author I've spent years creating the story I wanted to read but no-one had written. I had become fascinated by the wild west by my teens - intriguing for a UK gal, eh? - after watching TV and film westerns. I was thoroughly disappointed in the lack of decent roles for women, much less the fastest gun, and began daydreaming stories for my female western hero during the sixties and seventies.
Many, many years later I self published Book 1 - Go West Girl! last summer with the help of my fabulous PA hubby. It was very successful and accrued five star reviews and ratings and a great number of readers. A year later I published Book 2 - The Outlaw's Return. More five star reviews and readership followed.
Here follows the story outline:
Jeannie Morgan's gun is snake strike fast & her sexuality is as fluid as a miner's whiskey.
In Book 1 - Go West, Girl! the narrative follows the story of devastating and charismatic pants-wearing cowgirl Jeannie Morgan who comes of age on the wild frontier. She becomes the fastest gun in town and discovers her sexuality.
In Book 2 - The Outlaw's Return, she navigates the unforgiving frontier with her lethal gun and her powerful persona and she must confront her own identity and desires, all while facing down deadly confrontations.
In Book 3 (to be published next year) she will face further confrontations and also personal tragedies. Will she find happiness or will her tomboy beauty, her powerful persona and her lethal gun finally be the death of her?
Because I'm an artist, I worked in advertising studios, so I collaborated with my cover designer. The artworks are based on images I made years ago to illustrate Jeannie. The cover doesn't show Jeannie as she is, but I'm very pleased with it. I've added my own images of Jeannie. I also created my own marketing material.
So that's my story, or some of it!
